The Sturgeon Refinery

The NWR Sturgeon Refinery is the world’s only refinery designed from the ground up to minimize its environmental footprint through carbon capture and storage while producing the high-value, low-carbon products needed to meet North America’s demand for energy.

The Sturgeon Refinery commenced commercial operation refining bitumen into diesel in June 2020.

As the first refinery built in Canada in over 30 years, the construction, commissioning, start up, and full operation of the Sturgeon Refinery is an important accomplishment for the province and country.

A huge thank you to all of those who made this vision possible. A dream that began as a vision in 2004 is now a reality.
